You kick start a fitness routine after an indulgent summer by getting a gym membership. You are excited to start, since this time you are actually committed and will accomplish your fitness goals no matter what! Then you get to the gym and all of a sudden are overwhelmed by the intensely fit people around you and realize that you have absolutely no idea how to properly use the equipment. All of a sudden you are embarrassed and intimidated, thinking that you are being watched and secretly judged. You shy away and loose the momentum that you had built up before stepping into the gym.
Sound familiar? THIS is gymtimidation! And it’s actually a lot more common than you might think.
Thankfully though, we can overcome this together with these 6 tips, that will help you to roll into the gym as confident as ever!
1. Bring your girls
Working out with friends is always fun, especially when there are partner exercises involved! With friends next to your side you can get a solid and confident workout in worry-free, since you will be having far to much fun to stress about anything else!
2. Stay focused
Head into that gym confident, and with a plan of what you want your workout to be comprised of. My 30 day workout program is launching this September, and will lay out a full month of workouts for you. Taking the time and effort out of planning, so that all you need to focus on is your workout!
3. Plan, Plan, Plan!
By planning your workouts in advance you can schedule in gym times that have lesser traffic. Therefore, more flexibility to try out new workouts, equipments, etc. without the worry of many eyes watching.
4. Take a class
This is an excellent way to get a sweat session in, make new friends and get confident in your technique! The instructors create a fun and safe space for everyone to take advantage each class.
5. Ask questions
Talk to the personal trainers and gym staff! Ask them any questions you have on how to use the different machines, weights, equipment, etc. They are super knowledgable and love to help!
6. Rock that athletic wear
Feeling confident and comfortable in your athletic wear will help to propel you into that gym with a fearless attitude! Check out some of my favourite apparel below!
